SUNO and Community: Institutional History, Heritage, and Place in Pre- and Post-Katrina New Orleans

This is a fully online course that is designed to provide an overview of the historical role that Southern University at New Orleans has played in the lives of students, alumni and the New Orleans community. Hurricane Katrina will serve as a point of reflection or summing up, and as a beginning of a new phase of SUNO's work with students, alumni and community.

The course seeks to establish and sustain a community of active and engaged participants. Reading assignments, discussion topics, and activities will be drawn from the alumni, the instructor, and developing events in New Orleans. And looking forward by engaging in a scholarly and critical dialogue regarding SUNO's and the area's rebuilding and rebirth will be as important as looking back.
