ApplicationProfessional BSW Admission BSW applicants must meet University requirements for admission. After successfully completing the first two years of pre-social work course requirements, students may apply to the Professional Program for the BSW degree. There is an official application for acceptance in the Social Work Professional Program. Applications are reviewed at the completion of the pre-social work course requirements. Continued matriculation at the professional level of the Baccalaureate Program requires that the student maintains an overall GPA of 2.0 or better and a 2.5 average in Social Work courses. The requirements for the professional program are: 1. Complete all of SUNO general education requirements with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 on the 4.0 scale (must complete all English courses with a C or better) English 111,112 Math 151, 250 Biol 105, 106, 106 Lab Art or Music 101 MGIS 164 Hist 104, 220 Psych 210 Soc 210 Poli 210 Humanities Economics Chem, or Physics, or Physical Science Speech 2. Complete and submit all Professional Program application materials to the Director of the Baccalaureate Social Work program which include:
The Director of the Baccalaureate Social Work program will notify the students in writing of the committee’s decision. Any student who is not admitted is encouraged to meet with the BSW Program Director to discuss options that might include: (a) an explanation that clarifies the areas questioned during the review process and (b) selection of an alternative course of study consistent with the student’s career goals. Students must show suitability for the profession of social work. Any breach of the values and ethics of the profession embodied in the Code of Ethics established by the National Association of Social Workers may result in termination from the BSW program. |
