Southern University at New Orleans offers a number of scholarships to full-time students who qualify.  Awards are based upon prescribed criteria and the availability of funds.  Scholarships are provided through the University budget, endowments, the Southern University at New Orleans Foundation, private groups and organizations, companies and individuals.  The Scholarship Committee receives and reviews all applications prior to making recommendations to the Chancellor for approval.

Below is a list of the basic criteria.  Additional criteria may be required for scholarships associated with specific disciplines.  Incomplete applications or applications not in compliance with University guidelines will not be considered.  Basic criteria include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. A completed application submitted by May 15th each year for scholarships awarded the following fall and spring semesters.
  2. Applicant must be a full-time student for two (2) consecutive semesters prior to receiving a scholarship (summer semester[s] not included).  “SUNO First” recipients are excluded from this requirement.

  3. Student must have at least a 2.5 GPA for the semester and cumulative for two (2) consecutive semesters prior to receiving a scholarship.

  4. Student will not be considered for a scholarship until an “I” (Incomplete) grade is removed.

A new application must be submitted each year to be considered for scholarship awards.  This policy also applies to students who have received scholarship awards in the past.  Paper copies can be picked up from the Office of Community Outreach/University Advancement, Financial Aid, Academic Affairs, Admissions and Student Affairs.
